Notice of Special Congregational Meeting on Sunday, August 25, 2024

Due to lack of a quorum, no action could be taken at the special meeting held on August 4, 2024.  Because of the importance of the work that needs to be done, another special congregational meeting is being called for Sunday, August 25, 2024, immediately after our worship service.  The purpose of the meeting is to present, discuss, and vote on needed capital improvements.

As presented at the August 4 meeting, NLLC Council is recommending the following three capital improvement projects:

  1. Church parking lot crack repair and seal:  The current bid that we have for sealing care and repair of the parking lot with new line painting is estimated to cost approximately $9,000 to be done in 2024 by the same company that performed these services for us last time.
  2. Work on the entire exterior of the church:  The current bid includes thorough cleaning, mold elimination, re-caulking and wood repair where needed and finishing with two coats of stain at a cost of approximately $12,000.  This work could start early September and be completed in 2024.  This bid was received by the company that knows our building and has done excellent work for us.
  3. Church carpet replacement:  This project includes replacing the carpet in the sanctuary and the small offices attached; it does not include our meeting/dining room.  The estimate of the cost of this project is approximately $17,000.  Replacing the carpet with the carpet-square type we have in the meeting room was judged to be cost prohibitive.  The current carpet is the original carpet and is 27 years old.  When it was last cleaned, the carpet cleaner expressed concern about cleaning it again.  He believes we would see bubbling and fraying in various areas from further professional cleaning.

The total to complete the three projects is $38,000 and allows some flexibility for small increases if unexpected issues come up.  Both the parking lot and church exterior work are time critical given that colder weather is right around the corner.  In addition, costs will increase on these two projects as the damage worsens over the next year if not attended to.  While the carpet replacement project is not as time sensitive as the first two, the carpet does need cleaning, which would cost about $2,000 if we can find a company to do the work.
